Y5 Geography

Autumn
In geography this term we have been studying the Amazon Rainforest. We have created fact files on Jaguars. We have also looked at life in manous, shifting cultivation and deforestation.

Spring
In geography this term year 5 are learning how our county is changing. We will be looking at the London Olympics 2012 and what impact this had to make the construction, jobs and tourism better. We will learn how the cities are changing looking closely in Coventry in the 1940s to what it looks like nowadays.

Summer
This term in geography year 5 have been studying are we damaging our world. We have looked at the ocean and how we are damaging and harming the animals in the ocean.

In geography week this term, we have been learning about the Amazon Rainforest. We have used atlases and IPads to locate all 7 continents, specifically South America and have been able to identify the different rainforests across the world on the map. We also created fact files and posters on the city of Manaus and different rainforest animals.

Some of the interesting things we have learnt:

The Amazon Rainforest is located in South America with 60% in Brazil, 13% in Peru and 10% in Columbia.
Other countries have very small parts in their borders.
One of the biggest problems the Amazon Rainforest faces is deforestation.
We need trees to clean the carbon dioxide out of the air, and produce the oxygen we need to breathe.
Two ways we can help deforestation is by recycling and buying recycled products and by going paperless.

We as a school, are already taking steps to save our planet by reducing the paper we use.
