Y4 Art

Autumn 1 – This term we have been exploring the artist Giorgio Morandi. They have been focusing on their drawing skills, thinking about lines and details within their artwork. We have been selecting our materials to show the marks that have been made, using a viewfinder to focus on certain points. We have been expanding our knowledge within the lesson looking at continuous contour lines, thinking about not taking our pencil off the paper focusing on our objects at all times and then moving onto contour drawing looking at the details that we add into any negative space.

Autumn 2 –

During this half term we will be learning about an artist called Georgia Okeeffe who is an American artist. We will be focusing our artwork on the amazing abstract styles she has created and using this style to create our own. We will be transferring these skills into natural objects mainly looking and creating flowers where we will concentrate our attention to detail.

Spring 1 –

This term we have been creating are own textiles and printmaking marks based around the artist Gilbert Bobbo Ahiagble. We have based our learning around the traditional designs of the Kente cloth. We have been creating a range of combined colours using tie dying and using different textures and patterns.

Spring 2 –

During this half term we have been focusing our learning around the artist Alberto Giacometti. We have recreated are own foil sculpture figures inspired by the artist looking at proportion and scale in relation to creating images of human forms. We have also created images of illusion to create a movement.

Summer 1 – The artist we have focused on this half term is Helen Frankenhaler who is an American abstract artist who painted her artwork using ombré colours. We have used watercolours and ombré colours to create work that expresses our emotions in an imaginative way.

Summer 2 –  This term we have applied all our skills and knowledge and placed them together to help up with our creative responses. We have been creating our own traditional Mandala patterns and Henna patterns and transfers it onto a hand template.

2022/2023

We begin our topic by exploring colours opposite one another on the colour wheel (contrasting colours). We also experiment with naming shades and tints of primary, secondary and tertiary colours eg. Maroon, jade, peach, etc. while studying the work of Ben Johnson, in particular, his cityscapes and use of metallic colours.
