Dear Year 4,
Welcome to a brand-new school year! We are so happy to welcome you to Year 4 and am really looking forward to all the wonderful learning, laughter and memories we will share together.
This year will be full of exciting opportunities. We will explore new topics, read wonderful books, develop our skills, ask lots of questions and challenge ourselves to be the very best that we can be. There may be times when our learning feels tricky, but remember that making mistakes is an important part of learning. We will encourage one another, keep trying and celebrate our progress along the way.
As a Catholic school, Jesus will be at the heart of everything we do. We will grow together in faith through prayer, worship and reflection, and we will try to follow His example by showing kindness, compassion, forgiveness and love to everyone in our school family.
In our classroom, everyone is important and everyone belongs. We will listen to one another, respect each other's ideas and talents, and help to make our classroom a happy, safe and welcoming place. Each of you has special gifts from God, and we cannot wait to see you use and develop those gifts throughout the year.
Year 4 is going to be a fantastic adventure, and we feel very lucky to be sharing it with you. Come to school ready to try your best

Autumn 1 - Our book this term is Leon and the Place Between. We will be writing our own magic portal narrative and a persuasive text encouraging our reader to come and watch a magic show.
Autumn 1 - We are focusing on learning the skills necessary to play net and wall games including tennis. This includes different types of throwing, turn taking and following set rules.
Autumn 1 – This term we have been focusing on their drawing skills, thinking about lines and details within their artwork. We have been selecting our materials to show the marks that have been made, using a viewfinder to focus on certain points. We have been expanding our knowledge within the lesson looking at continuous contour lines, thinking about not taking our pencil off the paper focusing on our objects at all times and then moving onto contour drawing looking at the details that we add into any negative space.
Autumn 1 - We are focusing on relationships. We have been discussing how to problem solve and rectify situations safely as well as being safe online.
Autumn 1 – This half term we are focusing on learning how to say the members of our family, and describe our appearance. We will also be recapping our numbers and colours!
Year 4 are given a fantastic opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument. The instrument that we will be continuing to play is the ukulele. We have a specialist music teacher who comes in every Wednesday, once a week to teach us how to read and play music. Throughout the year we learn how to play different pieces of music together as a class.
Autumn1 - We are leaning about the settlement of the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots. This will help us to develop our chronology skills as well as our ability to understand different causations.
Autumn 1 – This term year 4 will be expanding their knowledge in place value. Pupils will be gaining new learning by looking at four digit numbers, recognising and understanding what each digit is worth. They will be recapping and developing their understanding of rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. They will also be looking at number lines and where numbers are positioned. Year 4 will be ordering and comparing numbers beyond 1000 in ascending and descending order and developing their numeral knowledge by learning Roman numerals in further detail (I, V, L, C).
Autumn 1 - We will be developing our knowledge and understanding on the formation of rivers. We will be describing key aspects of rivers and their importance in our every day lives.
Autumn 1 - We will be looking at Our Online Life and how to stay safe whilst using the internet. We will be looking at our Digital Footprint and how we can manage our Digital Footprint and make it a positive impact on ourselves and others.
