2023/2024
Autumn – In DT this term year 4 have been looking at the topic how homemade food is healthier than mass produced products. Pupils have looked at what ingredients we have used to bake our food and what ingredients are used in products that we buy within the shops. Year 4 have made homemade pizza, bread rolls and soup within their cooking lessons. Pupils were then able to evaluate their food explaining how they made it, relating to the units keywords and discussing what they enjoyed or disliked about what they made.
Spring 1 – In DT this half term we have been looking at textiles. We have learnt about different buckles and buttons that are used on our everyday clothing and how to sew these on to fabric. We have labelled and discussed the different functions fasteners have and have reflected on whether they are useful for certain clothing. We have found there are many advantages and disadvantages of having and using there fasterners on our clothing.
Spring 2 – Year 4 have been exploring different structures looking at shapes and how they can provide stability. We have used a wide range on materials and investigated 3D shapes to help us to collaborate our shapes together to structure a class dome.
2022/2023
Enjoying our DT topic where we had to combine two materials to make an object with a practical use.
Autumn 1 – This term we have been exploring the artist Giorgio Morandi. They have been focusing on their drawing skills, thinking about lines and details within their artwork. We have been selecting our materials to show the marks that have been made, using a viewfinder to focus on certain points. We have been expanding our knowledge within the lesson looking at continuous contour lines, thinking about not taking our pencil off the paper focusing on our objects at all times and then moving onto contour drawing looking at the details that we add into any negative space.
Autumn 2 –
During this half term we will be learning about an artist called Georgia Okeeffe who is an American artist. We will be focusing our artwork on the amazing abstract styles she has created and using this style to create our own. We will be transferring these skills into natural objects mainly looking and creating flowers where we will concentrate our attention to detail.
Spring 1 –
This term we have been creating are own textiles and printmaking marks based around the artist Gilbert Bobbo Ahiagble. We have based our learning around the traditional designs of the Kente cloth. We have been creating a range of combined colours using tie dying and using different textures and patterns.
Spring 2 –
During this half term we have been focusing our learning around the artist Alberto Giacometti. We have recreated are own foil sculpture figures inspired by the artist looking at proportion and scale in relation to creating images of human forms. We have also created images of illusion to create a movement.
Summer 1 – The artist we have focused on this half term is Helen Frankenhaler who is an American abstract artist who painted her artwork using ombré colours. We have used watercolours and ombré colours to create work that expresses our emotions in an imaginative way.
Summer 2 – This term we have applied all our skills and knowledge and placed them together to help up with our creative responses. We have been creating our own traditional Mandala patterns and Henna patterns and transfers it onto a hand template.
2022/2023
We begin our topic by exploring colours opposite one another on the colour wheel (contrasting colours). We also experiment with naming shades and tints of primary, secondary and tertiary colours eg. Maroon, jade, peach, etc. while studying the work of Ben Johnson, in particular, his cityscapes and use of metallic colours.
2023/2024
Autumn 1 – Year 4 have began focusing on both their physical and mental health during PSHE lessons. We have explore the different types of strategies needed to keep both our minds and our bodies fit and healthy. We have looked at how to maintain a healthy lifestyle thinking about the foods and drink we have daily, how much exercise and sleep our bodies should be getting. Year 4 have looked at other factors that help to keep us healthy by discussing their personal hygiene and oral hygiene and why it’s very important to look after these throughout our lives.
Autumn 2 – This term we focused on how to stay safe around different medicines and within our household. We have looked at different scenarios where pupils discussed what the medicine was being used and what they would do in that moment (telling a parent, not taken it without adult consent.) We also looked at household products that can be found around our houses and different drugs which are common to everyday life.
Spring 1 – Year 4 have been learning all about community this half term. We have looked at what makes up a community and the different groups that are found (school, home, neighbourhood.) We have talked about and explored what different volunteers do within our community to help.
Spring 2 – This half term year 4 are learning all about money and work. We have discovered different ways of paying (credit cards, contactless, debit cards). Where money comes from (banks and jobs) thinking about what they would like to be when they grow up and creating an advert for that job and ways of borrowing money.

Autumn – This half term we are focusing on learning how to say the members of our family, and describe our appearance. We will also be recapping our numbers and colours!
Spring – This term we are focusing are learning on the world around us, how to say different animals and describe our home environment.
2023/2024
Year 4 are given a fantastic opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument. The instrument that we get to play is the ukulele. We have a specialist music teacher who comes in every Tuesday, once a week to teach us how to read and play music. Throughout the year we learn how to play different pieces of music together as a class.
2022/2023
Year 4 is such as special time for music as we are lucky enough to learn how to play a brass instrument. We have a specialist music teacher that comes in once a week to teach us how to read music and play either the trumpet or the trombone.Throughout the year we will learn to play pieces of music together as a class.
2023/2024
Autumn – Year 4 have been learning about Julius Caesar and the Roman Empire. We have been learning about the Punic wars and how the Roman Repuplic had expanded from the Italian peninsula in all directions and how the Roman army gained territory.
Spring – Year 4 have been exploring Roman Britain. We have gained an understanding in why Roman was called Roman Britain and who gained and who lost in Roman Britain. We have also been learning about Three changing Christian worlds: empire and religion (300 – 600 CE).
2023/2024
Autumn 1 – This term year 4 will be expanding their knowledge in place value. Pupils will be gaining new learning by looking at four digit numbers, recognising and understanding what each digit is worth. They will be recapping and developing their understanding of rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. They will also be looking at number lines and where numbers are positioned. Year 4 will be ordering and comparing numbers beyond 1000 in ascending and descending order and developing their numeral knowledge by learning Roman numerals in further detail (I, V, L, C).
Autumn 2 – Pupils will be learning addition and subtraction enhancing their learning from previous years. Pupils will be adding and subtracting numbers up to four digits, using formal written methods of colour addition and subtraction. Pupils will be looking at numbers that add together which shows an exchange. We will also be learning multiplication and division, focusing on the multiply’s within each of our times tables and the division facts relating to each times table. Pupils will be using their division facts to be able to recall their multiplication tables up to 12x.
Spring 1 – This half term in maths we have been developing previous learning we have gained on perimeter by measuring missing lengths on rectangles. We have calculated the perimeter on polygon shapes. We have also learnt area by counting squares, comparing area and making shapes with a given area stated to us.
Spring 2 – This term in maths year 4 have been enhancing their knowledge and understanding in fractions. We have converted improper fractions to mixed number fractions and have added and subtracted fractions with the same denominator. We have also learnt equivalent fractions, fractions on a number line and comparing and ordering fractions. We have gained and developed new learning in the topic decimals but studying dividing 1 and 2 digit numbers by 10 and 100, hundredths as a fraction and decimals and how these are represented on a place value chart.
Summer 1 – This half term we have been learning all about money. We have learnt how to write money using decimals, converting between pounds (£) and pence (p), estimating with money, and solving problems relating to money.

Spring 1 – Year 4 have been studying all about coastal processes and landforms. We have explored processes of erosion, what transportation and deposition is and looked at the effects this can have and changes that have occurred to form different coast lines.
Spring 2 – This term year 4 are studying all about tourism. We have looked at what it’s like to be beside the seaside, what tourism is like in other countries focusing on America, Italy and Spain, what ski holidays do for tourism and how money contributes to the areas being visited.
We will be looking at Our Online Life and how to stay safe whilst using the internet. We will be looking at our Digital Footprint and how we can manage our Digital Footprint and make it a positive impact on ourselves and others.
