Y5 D&T

Autumn

In DT this term year 5 have been designing and making mechanisms – we made pulley-operated Ferris wheels. We researched the uses of pulleys and found that there was three purposes: to raise a load, to lower a load and to rotate an object. We used this third purpose to design our Ferris wheels. We made braces to support the wheels and attached a simple pulley to rotate the wheel. We evaluated our creations by stating the things that went well and some things we would do differently if we were to do it again.

Spring

In Spring term year 5 will be building Viking huts which relates to the topic we will be learning about in history. We will look to make 3D structures using hinges

Planning, designing and creating medieval huts which linked to our history topic – Vikings.
