At Our Lady and St Swithins, we believe that mental health and wellbeing are at the heart of every child’s learning journey. As Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead, I work closely with pupils, families, and staff to create a safe, supportive environment where everyone feels valued. Through wellbeing activities, small group sessions, and whole-school initiatives, we aim to nurture happy, confident learners who thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Our pupils have been exploring the Zones of Regulation in small group sessions. They’ve been learning how to recognise their feelings and use simple techniques to help themselves return to the Green Zone – calm, happy and ready to learn. The children enjoyed practising strategies such as mindful breathing.
WELL-BEING WEEK- finding the MAGIC in our school .
during well-being week, our whole school focus of the theme of "MAGIC", an acronym that captures the five key elements of positive mental heath and well-being.
In our session we explored the letters trough activities, discussions, and reflections, helping the children understand simple ways to look after their own well-being and take care of others.
M- Mindfulness: taking time to pause, notice our thoughts and feelings, and focus on the present moment.
A- Active : moving our bodies in ways that make us feel good
G- Give : showing kindness and appreciation to others, and recognizing the positive impact of giving
I - Interest : trying new things, exploring hobbies, and being curios about world around us
C-Connect : building relationships with our friends families and school community
"As part of our Mental Health Day, we welcomed Trisha from The Lodge Wellness Centre. She guided students through mindfulness activities and shared practical strategies for supporting positive mental health. It was a valuable and engaging experience for all involved."
"We have an amazing group of students who have volunteered to be Mental Health Ambassadors in our school. As part of their role, they have been visiting The Lodge Wellness Centre to learn and practise mindfulness techniques. These skills are not only helping them manage their own wellbeing, but also supporting their peers across the school."
This Anti-Bullying Week, our school took part in a range of activities to celebrate kindness, inclusion and the power we all have to make a positive difference.
Odd Socks Day
We kicked off the week by wearing odd socks to celebrate what makes each of us unique. It was a fun and colourful way to remind everyone that our differences should be respected and celebrated.
Using Our Power for Good
Throughout the week, the children took part in discussions about what bullying is, how it affects people, and what we can do to help. We talked about how we can use our own power—especially our voices—to speak up, support others, and stand against unkind behaviour.
Joining the Anti-Bullying School Project
A dedicated group of children joined the Anti-Bullying School Project, signing up alongside many other schools across the city. They worked incredibly hard to learn five signed songs, practising throughout the week so they could perform confidently and share an important message through music and sign language.
We are very proud of the enthusiasm, kindness and commitment shown by all of our pupils during this special week.
