Y6 Art
Autumn 1 – In art this term year 6 have been looking at the artist Frida Kahlo who focused her artwork around self portraits using colours to portray her emotions. Year 6 have been using and applying their knowledge of technique into their drawings using scale and proportion. They produced a self portrait of themselves and created a surreal background that represented symbols that meant things to them.
Autumn 2 – In art this term year 6 have been focusing their learning on painting and collage basing their work and research around the artist Pablo Picasso. They have been developing their understanding of overlapping, using different materials (paint, tissue paper, coloured pens/pencils and felt) to create different types of collages. We have been exploring many different techniques and using this through our use of different tones and tints.
Spring 1 – This half term we are focusing on the British artist Patrick Hughes. We have explored how to create an optical illusion of a three dimensional shape on a flat surface. To help us to create this artwork we have used a viewfinder to focus closely of one area of an image, we have created an optical illusion from one vanishing point. We then looked at the perspective of the object we were including make image closer to us bigger and images further away from us smaller.
Spring 2 – The artist we have studied this half term is Dale Chihuly who is an American glass sculptor and entrepreneur. We have created a 3D form using a wide range of techniques developed across different art units. We had to consider and think about the use of different colours, patterns and texture that could be combined together to create a 3D structures.
