In History Year one are learning all about ships and seafarers over time. They made the first simple boats from reeds and paper straws to see how they would sail.

The children have been learning about ancient rulers and the contributions they made. This week we have looked at the first emperor of China Qin Shi Huang, and learned that he started to build The Great Wall of China to protect the Chinese people. The Terracotta Army were made to protect him in the afterlife. The children have made their own terracotta warriors to create an amazing Terracotta Army.

Year 1 have conducted an investigation in Science this week. The children tested a variety of materials to see if they were absorbent or not and if they were transparent or opaque.

Year 1 have beautifully illustrated the Ascension in RE this week. They can describe the sequence of events leading to this day.

We Will Rock You! The children had a great time in their rock band learning new skills.

Year 1 are looking at textiles in DT. We are learning the running stitch in preparation for making a hand warmer.

As part of PHSE we have looked at how important it is to care for our environment. The children picked up litter in the yard and made posters to encourage others to think before dropping litter on the floor.
We have been learning about the events of Holy Week. Year 1 enjoyed making our own Easter garden.

Year 1 have been recreating Kandinsky’s famous masterpiece in computing this week.

Year 1 had lots of fun on World Book Day. We visited our new school library and chose a book to take home. It was lovely to see so many of our families joining their children to read. Well done to Lavinia for winning the competition for the best costume.
