During PE this week, we have been continuing to develop our throwing and catching skills. This has helped us to improve our game of cricket.

This week we have enjoyed taking part in a careers fair. We had various people coming in to discuss their role and get the children thinking about their future.

In English, we have been planning, preparing and presenting a debate to decide whether wolves should be integrated back into the UK.

This week some of our children have attended a residential trip at PGL. We have taken part in lots of fun activities that have helped us work together as a team and strengthen our friendships.

In PE this week, we have been continuing to develop our basketball skills. We have focused on team work, dribbling and ball skills to improve our game.

This week, we have been learning some self defence skills to help us keep safe.

This term in DT, we started our new topic about structures. We looked at Blackpool Tower and researched how it was built. We then had a class competition of who could build the tallest freestanding structure, just using paper and sellotape.

In English this week, we have been completing our final write on our text, Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species. We have focused on the objectives we need to include and our cursive handwriting.

This week, Y6 took part in a CELLS project workshop. They listened intently and asked lots of questions to understand that making the wrong choices can have a huge negative impact on not just their own lives but their families lives too.

This week in RE, we have been working in groups planning, writing and performing our own Prayer and Liturgy.

This week in our Power session, we created our own superhero workout games and investigated whether they increased our heart rate.

In RE this week, we have compared four gospels from Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They all retold the story of Jesus feeding the crowd. We discussed how and why each gospel varied in detail.

In PE this term, we are focusing on street dance. We have been learning about our timing using counts of 4, discovering a range of different moves and developing a routine in our groups.

In our Art lessons this term, we are looking at the work of Patrick Hughes, a British contemporary artist. Our focus, was to use a vanishing point to create a one-point perspective drawing.

This week in English, we have been focusing on our newspaper reports and understanding the way we use a variety of speech in our writing.

This week in RE, we have been looking at Judaism. We have been learning about The Mikveh, which is a special pool of natural water used for purification and renewal. It is used before important life events, such as marriage, and symbolises a fresh start.

This week in science we have been continuing our topic of light. We wanted to find out which surfaces made the best reflectors. We made predictions, tested different types of materials using torches and discussed our findings.

This week in our computing lesson with Mr Priesly, we looked at different social media apps and created animated posters using PicCollage.

This week in maths, we have been continuing to look at fractions. We have been using different methods to help us understand how to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions and vice versa.

In Science, Year 6 have been looking at light. This week we made our own Newton colour wheels to help us understand how rainbows are formed.
